The Black Dahlia

Great posters for this movie (as you can see), decent cast as well… Read up on the true story here.
City of David

Lovely use of flash on this site for the City of Jerusalam. Opening scene is atmospheric and does a great job of setting up the entrance without looking too much like a “loading, please wait.. skip intro” page. Have a look at the transition of ancient Jerusalam to the modern day one. Usability could’ve been better though – still have no clue on the smudgy navbar on the top left of the inner pages. Think I’ll try and do something like this for the City of Nagercoil.
Google knows all

Trust Google not to let good information go to waste. Google Music Trends lists what the world is listening to, or atleast what users of Google Talk are listening to. You can sort by Genre as well as country, but only the US is available as of now. They do have a “Hindi” genre though. Interesting – Iron Maiden completely rules the heavy metal genre, with Hallowed Be Thy Name topping the list. Lovely.
Give till it hurts
Handy little tool for terrorists

Real time information on major airports freely accessible by all and sundry ? Head onto Java.com’s airportmonitor. Check out what’s happening at Los Angeles International Airport. You’ll need to wait a few moments for the applet to load. Soon you’ll see planes flying around – clicking on an airplane will tell you intimate details such as it’s type, airline, origin, destination, flight path and present altitude. All this page needs is a link to information on finding shoulder launched rocket launchers, then they’ll be all set. Seriously, WTF?
Pan’s Labyrinth
“Innocence has a power that evil cannot imagine”
I just loved that line. Makes sense in my life anyway. Official movie site>
Mad Thoughts Of A Deranged Gulf-returned-Mallu
“Random blog title generator” from dingchak.net – this is a must-click. Can’t wait for the widget.
Since every third desi blog title is either a “confused writings of.. “, a “random scribblings from..”, a “mad thoughts of.. ” or a permutation of other such similar apologist disclaimers, aimed towards pre-empting readers from commenting on how shallow and lame the posts really are, to save time, Dingchak.net has a cool new utility that will generate these titles for you [wordpress/blogger plugin to follow soon], automatically, freeing writers to think up those pearls of wisdom, those nuggets of truth, for which us netizens eagerly await, with baited breath.
Old Monk

No more trial downloads?

Ah, the web finally coming into it’s own. Typical scenario – Software publisher releases new version of software, posts 600MB setup file (trial version) on website for everyone to download, and noone bothers to do. It takes too damn long and why the @#$% would you want to wait that long and then risk destroying your finely balanced PC with beta crap? Doesn’t work too well for the publisher either, expecially when the trial is cracked and put up on the P2P networks before the official release.
Enter remote desktops – the publisher installs the software on a web server and gives public access to try out the software via the web, without having to download it. MS has done a decent job to give access to the evaluation edition of MS Office 2007 via a Citrix browser plugin (IE only, of course). Don’t see how this can be used for trial versions of games though.
